Captain America actor and Marvel star Chris Evans is rumored to be in talks to reprise his role
This news may come of a bit of shock to some MCU fans because of the way Endgame left the character in the finale. And they also doubled down on it with a picture of our hero in a tribute in Spiderman Far From Home. But savvy comic book fans know that death doesn't usually mean the end and that there's always a way.
The options are vast on how this could be done. They've already showed a way to bring back the young version right in Endgame with the aging and de-aging of Ant Man early in the film. With Dr. Strange's next movie dealing with the multiverse they could go the route of an alt Captain America very easily. Even an older Cap that mentors the New Avengers could be a way to see a different side of the character.
Whichever road they choose to take the character down it is being reported that it's unlikely it would be in a standalone film. Based on that report it's a safe assumption to say that he will have more of a cameo role in whichever other Marvel movie they decide he fits in.
It's important to note that this is just a rumor at the moment. Chris Evans has already stated that Endgame would be the finale of his run as Captain America and that he would be moving on to other projects. There's also the fact that in a passing of the torch moment he hands his shield over to Falcon at the end of Endgame and we will be getting a series on Disney + with this character. And to add one more hitch into the news Chris Evans had this to day on Twitter.
Now of course Marvel has a history of misdirection to keep the fans entertained by unspoiled surprises and Chris could be following that formula. But we will have to wait and see.
Whatever happens however Marvel fans at the very least have a bit of hope that they will one day see one of the most beloved and iconic character in the MCU once again pick up his shield.
