Fans Get Release Date for Highly Anticipated Snyder Cut

Nothing out of the DCU has been more anxiously anticipated by fans than Zach Snyder’s Justice League. Fan’s were a buzz when it was announced on May 20, 2020 that the Snyder Cut would release on HBO Max in 2020. The announcement was in response to the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement that immediately started after fans were left less than satisfied by Joss Whedon’s inferior interpretation. Fans went as far to create an online petition that gained more than 180,000 signatures. When the announcement was made, fans felt vindicated and that their voices were finally being heard.

Fans were not the only ones displeased with the Justice League that hit the theatres in November of 2017. At an online screening of Man of Steel in May of 2020, Snyder, who was forced to turn over the directorial reigns after a family emergency forced him to leave the film, admitted that he did not see the Joss Whedon version and left little indication that he had plans to do so. Stating that it was “probably one-fourth of what (he) did”, he promised a completely new experience with the release of his cut of the movie. Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck, and Ray Fisher also showed their support to the Snyder cut as they echoed the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut on the second anniversary of the original film’s release.

DC FanDome in August of 2020 gave fans the first glimpse of the Snyder Cut with a black-and-white trailer that captivated its audience for over 2 minutes, breathing new life into a film that knocked the air out of the franchise. The trailer confirmed a few things for viewers:

  • Legendary DC big bad DarkSeid will indeed be the main focus when it comes to villains. We see him at the opening of the teaser and throughout.

  • We will see Superman in his dark, black and silver suit.

  • We will get more of Victor Stone’s (Ray Fisher) backstory, and this version of Justice League will feature Kiersey Clemons’ Iris West, Stone’s love interest, who was cut from the original theatrical release.

  • We will get a lot more set up of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman character.

  • We will see the Hall of Justice completely devastated.

  • Zack Snyder has made good on his promise to change the color of the much-derided orange/red sky that features in the finale.

  • Batman gets a rousing moment that he did not in the original, telling the Justice League crew at the end of the trailer, “I don’t care how many demons he’s fought in how many hells. He’s never fought us. Not us united.”

With talks of an extended run time around the 4-hour mark, it was rumored that the film may be split into a miniseries format. However, Snyder put that theory to rest on his Vero account that his team had decided to keep the project a feature film.

Now fans know exactly how much longer they will have to wait for the Snyder Cut to hit HBO Max, and it isn’t long! A March 18th date has been announced for the long-awaited Snyder Cut, putting fans only 6 weeks away from the big debut. Will you be watching on release day with the rest of the cPOPuniverse?
